Empowering My Colleagues to Succeed
For 16 years, TS Cloud operated without a full-time HR specialist. Amidst evolving markets and a growing team, we have finally welcomed our first dedicated HR professional, Anny. Now managing the entire HR function independently, Anny’s role offers a stark contrast to the specialized division of labor in larger corporations. Read our interview with her to discover how she is shaping our workforce and her perspective on our unique company culture.
What is your role and your mission at TS Cloud?
I joined TS Cloud in 2023 and have been with the company for about a year, serving as the HR specialist. My primary responsibilities go beyond concrete tasks like talent acquisition and recruitment, compensation and benefits, performance appraisal execution, and policy development. I am also tasked with shaping employee values and building corporate culture, essentially operating as a Full-Function HR professional.
What did your career look like before you transitioned to TS Cloud?
I previously served in the retail and manufacturing industries, transitioning from a Business Section Manager to the HR field. I discovered that I am naturally more adept at interpersonal relations and communication than dealing with physical commodities, finding a true sense of achievement and joy in HR work. Consequently, I have solidified my career path and am committed to deepening my expertise within the professional HR domain.
What was the primary reason you decided to join TS Cloud?
I first noticed this vacancy when I was drawn in by a recruitment advertisement on Instagram. The copy boldly asked, “Do you want to use your HR expertise to help a company grow?”—which aligned perfectly with my own career aspirations! While the HR role exists in almost every company, it is often viewed merely as an administrative function for handling routine tasks. Rarely is “HR expertise” truly valued, nor is there much recognition of the contributions HR can bring to an organisation. Therefore, when I saw the wording in that advertisement, it truly resonated with me. This company gave me a sense of respect for professionalism and a genuine emphasis on “people,” which is what ultimately led me to join.
What do you find most fulfilling about this role?
“It’s wonderful to have you in the company!” This is the most rewarding and fulfilling feedback I have received since joining. As the company’s first-ever dedicated HR professional since its founding, I often experienced self-doubt, wondering if my role truly added value to the organisation. During a 1-on-1 interview with an employee, they shared that my genuine care made them feel supported and at ease. They mentioned that whenever they feel uneasy at work, they know there is someone they can confide in and rely on for assistance—concluding that it’s great the company finally has an HR department. Hearing this made me incredibly happy; I felt my value as an HR professional was validated. It reminded me to stay true to my original intentions and strive to be someone everyone can trust.
What do you consider your greatest takeaways from joining TS Cloud?
The international working environment here was an unexpected bonus after I joined! We have colleagues from various countries, including Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Japan. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with them, even if it means forcing myself to practice my English, which had become quite rusty since entering the workforce (laughs).
What makes it even more special is the opportunity for business travel to our Malaysia and Japan offices. These exchanges have allowed me to grow continuously, broadening my horizons and fostering a more open mindset—truly invaluable life experiences that I never encountered in my previous roles.
What is your personal vision and the goals you aim to achieve here?
As an HR professional, my role extends far beyond basic personnel administration and routine tasks. I aspire to take on a strategic role in integration and planning—formulating corporate human resource policies, facilitating talent development, and enhancing our employer branding to drive the company’s growth.
Furthermore, I hope to be a trusted figure for our employees. I want to break the stereotype of HR being merely the “management’s enforcer” and instead be seen as a teammate who supports and grows alongside everyone in the organisation.
Is there a colleague in the company whom you particularly admire?
Sophie, the General Manager of TS Cloud!
Rather than simple admiration, I deeply respect her attitude and proactivity when facing challenges. Our clients come from a wide range of industries, which brings a diverse array of complex requirements that cannot be addressed with standardised solutions.
When faced with these complicated and mentally demanding problems, Sophie doesn’t think, “How could these demands possibly be met?” Instead, she operates on the premise that it can be done, working diligently to devise strategies and exploring every possible avenue to achieve the goal. This pursuit of excellence is a professional attribute that I believe every employee at TS Cloud can learn from.
How would you describe TS Cloud as a company?
A highly dynamic company that refuses to be confined by traditional frameworks. We operate in an industry where technology and products are constantly evolving; therefore, a fast-paced environment is a challenge we must navigate daily.
However, in such a setting, I never worry about the company’s stability. This is because of our agility in responding to change and our robust adaptability. We consistently realign our human resources and organisational structure or launch new services and products to stay ahead of market trends.
If you prefer stability or a slow-paced working environment, this may not be your best choice. However, if you are tired of monotonous tasks and thrive on constant new challenges, this is the perfect place for you!
In Your View, What Are The Company’s Strength And Weaknesses?
The strengths:
- I believe the best part of TS Cloud is undoubtedly the “people”! My colleagues are incredibly easy to get along with, and the atmosphere is friendly and harmonious. There is absolutely no “office politics” or toxic competition here; whenever someone needs assistance, there is always someone ready to step in and offer support.
- Our colleagues are emotionally stable and rational, ensuring that communication remains objective and focused on the task at hand rather than personal differences. Consequently, work discussions are free from psychological burden, and everyone is encouraged to voice their ideas for open discussion.
Areas for improvement:
I believe the priority is the optimisation of our performance appraisal system. The current system has been in place for many years, and as our organisation and workforce continue to evolve, it no longer fully aligns with our current needs.
We have already begun the planning process, with the objective of redesigning a system that accurately reflects each employee’s contributions while simultaneously serving as a catalyst for their professional growth and advancement!
As our first dedicated HR professional, Anny has infused TS Cloud with fresh expertise while earning widespread trust through her empathy and integrity. Her deep mastery of HR functions and proactive approach to shaping our culture underscore the strategic value of human resources in any organization. We are confident that under her guidance, TS Cloud will reach new heights in talent development, securing a robust human capital foundation for our continued evolution.
