Ways to free up Google Drive storage

When the Drive storage is insufficient, you can reorganize the files to free up some space. Thus, you do not need to spend a penny to purchase additional storage.

(1) Delete unnecessary data and files

Delete unnecessary data in Google Drive, Google Photos, and Gmail to increase storage. You’ll need to empty the Trash folder by permanently deleting the items in it to free up space.

(2) Change the storage settings of Google Photos

From the settings, change your photos and videos from Original quality to High quality which doesn’t take up storage space. High-quality photos backed up after June 1, 2021, will begin counting toward your Google Account storage. This includes photos backed up in the Original quality and then compressed to High quality after June 1, 2021.

Ways to increase Google Drive storage

If you’re facing insufficient Drive storage after deleting files, you can increase the storage as follows.

(1) Purchase storage

If you’re a user of either a free version or Business Starter, you can purchase additional storage. For the price and method of purchase, please refer to Google’s official website.

(2) Upgrade your current edition

If you’re using a free account, you may consider upgrading to the paid version. While if you’re a user of a paid account, you can upgrade to a higher edition to get more storage.

(3) Increase the number of user accounts

Since the storage add-on option is not available for Business Standard and Business Plus, you may consider increasing the number of user accounts to increase the storage.
